About Us

Maggie Gillikin has been creating art for twenty years. Originally a teacher of foreign languages at the secondary school level, she later specialized in preschool education. She is a retired professional puppeteer and is affectionately known as “the puppet lady” throughout San Antonio and South Texas. But for the past ten years Maggie has concentrated her phenomenal energies on bookmaking, watercolor, and lettering arts. A signature member of the Southwest Watercolor Society, and a long standing member of the San Antonio Calligraphers’ Guild and Austin Book Workers, Maggie has found special pleasure in combining these arts. Leslie Winakur, also known as “Dr. Leslie,” is a retired pediatrician who has found a new life in art over the past ten years. Always an avid reader and collector of both rare and modern books, she is now fascinated by the creation of books in which the elements of the content - i.e., the art, the lettering, and , of course, the text - are all thoroughly integrated with the book structure itself. Leslie has been a student of watercolor and calligraphy for the past ten years, and is a member of the San Antonio Calligraphers’ Guild and Austin Book Workers. She is thrilled to be proof that there is indeed life after retirement |
